Genomic Sequencing Gets Faster With ProActive Scheduler

5 November 2009 by cdespoix

ActiveEon is currently collaborating with a French Pharmacology institute to accelerate and scale up a genomic sequencing solution:

To develop its activity in genomics sequencing, this Pharmacology institute acquired in 2008 a next-generation sequencing platform. The volume and size of data currently generated in genomic analysis grow steadily. In parallel, algorithms to process and consolidate these data are always more complex. The need for an increased computing power is then pressing. But hardware resources are a limited and costly asset: to mutualize available hardware resources and enable a better workload management is the solution to overcome the lack in computing power. ProActive Parallel Suite has been therefore integrated in the genomic sequencing solution used by the Pharmacology institute. Integration was done very easily thanks to the flexibility of ProActive.
Tests are on going and are progressing very well.

Thanks to ProActive it is now possible to:

  • Aggregate all PCs available in the lab and distribute the jobs over this pool
  • Extend internal computing resources with Amazon EC2 nodes and efficently execute the genomic sequencing solution over all these nodes
  • Run the genomic sequencing solution on Amazon EC2 only

The speed up achieved on each hardware configuration is very promising.

IMPORTANT! To be able to proceed, you need to solve the following simple math (so we know that you are a human) :-)

What is 14 + 8 ?
